About Pugnacious

Our foods provide  super premium,  human grade nutrition, based on traditional ancestral diets. These natural diets fulfill the nutritional needs of our four-legged family members and contain a balanced blend of top quality protein, whole, nutritionally intact grains, mostly brown rice, oatmeal,  and barley, and they never include supermarket dog food fillers like ground-up feathers, beaks and other discarded animal byproducts, or worse, chemicals that act as artificial coloring or preservatives.

    We know that your dog or cat is not just last years neglected Christmas present, but a fully fledged member of your family.  Our quality products will allow you to treat, spoil, and most importantly, nurture your pet in a wholesome and healthy way.  

    We aim to be a true neighborhood pet store. We encourage you to come in and share your knowledge and ideas so we can, in turn, share them with others in the animal community.  We want to know who your favorite vet is, who your favorite dog-walker or dog-sitter is, where your favorite dog or cat boarding house is, what you want to see included in our store, and which services you want us to provide.

    So come on in -- talk to us and get a complimentary treat for your dog or cat, yourself, your child, and let your dog re-hydrate at our doggie watering hole.  We look forward to seeing you all!

 About us

    We moved here from Europe decades ago, and Albany/Berkeley has been our home for 30 years.   We are embarking on this venture, not because we are business people (heck, we are career change academics with degrees from Cal ), but because we love our pets.  We have four dogs (3 pugs and a dachshund) and a cat who is not totally happy about being so outnumbered.  Our store is a true family effort. 

    All our kids are chipping in:  Peter is helping us with the business side of things; Jennifer and Alexis, having worked for natural pet food companies for over 8 years, are our consultants; Dylan is in charge of on-site maintenance; Jonas does the computer and graphic work; and Annie and Katya will be our on-site helpers.

    And last, but not least, our three pugs (Ruby, Roxy and Bella) are frequent visitors to the store, enjoying the copious amounts of attention and treats bestowed upon them. They will be the ones languishing on the divan in the shop

window - hoping to be petted or fed a treat (they live for both).  Visit us and meet them, because they (as well as us) will be pleased to meet you!
